It’s great to share this lovely story from Linda, one of our retail managers at Nunsthorpe and The Willows.

Volunteer Story

Meet Terri, she started volunteering for Women’s Aid at the end of 2020.

Her daughter was going into senior school and Terri, now looking for something to fill her time, decided to take on some volunteer hours at our Nunsthorpe shop.

Terri had been with us for about a year when a relief support worker role became available within Women’s Aid and having identified huge potential in her, I told Terri that I thought she would be perfect for the role.

She applied and was successful and is now working in a paid role, directly supporting women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Of course, we now miss her incredibly and the contribution she made in our shop but our loss is definitely the support services gain 💜

This demonstrates the value of volunteering in our charity shops for anyone wanting to get back into employment after a break.

It’s a great stepping stone, building confidence, gaining retail experience and helping people, before looking for a paid position in any area.
